2021 EBERTFEST: Basic Info & Frequently Asked Questions
September 8 - September 11
2021 ROGER EBERT’S FILM FESTIVAL
Wed, Sept 8 through Sat, Sept 11, 2021
Ebertfest will be a Reserved Seating event this year, with patrons able to choose their own seats.
Reserved Seats will be for the run of the event. In other words, an Ebertfest pass guarantees the patron holding it a single, identified seat for the duration of the festival. The patron’s seating information will be printed on a decal attached to the festival pass.
For the comfort of patrons, festival organizers have added an unoccupied “gap” seat between each party at the Virginia. Patrons purchasing seats together will be regarded as a single party.
New passes will be available for purchase by the general public starting at 10am on Monday, June 7, 2021.
New passes are $200 each, with no added fees. 4-Packs of passes (adjacent seats with no gaps between them) are $700, also with no added fees. UIUC students may purchase a pass for $150 (requires valid UIUC Student ID).
Individual tickets to the films go on sale at 10am, Wednesday, September 1, 2021, and will also be Reserved Seating.
The final list of film titles and guests will be announced nearer the festival, in August.
Festival Pass Exchange (where pass purchasers receive their physical pass and lanyard) will begin at the Virginia Theatre Box Office on Monday, September 6, 2021, at 10am.
The 2021 Ebertfest will run from 7pm (doors at 6pm) Wednesday, September 8, through Saturday, September 11, 2021.
While Ebertfest will be Reserved Seating this year for festival passholders and individual ticket holders, the VIP Section (Sec 4, Main Floor) will remain General Admission and is for VIP Passholders only.
All passes will be fully refundable up to July 28.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q. Will passholders be allowed to move around the house throughout the different movies of the festival?
A. Each Reserved Seat will be for the duration of the festival. A festival pass guarantees the patron holding it a single, identified seat, for the entire event.
Q. Can a festival pass for a particular reserved seat be exchanged for a different seat?
A. Sorry, festival passes and individual tickets at the Virginia Theatre are non-exchangeable.
Q. Will social distancing be used at this year’s Ebertfest?
A. Ebertfest will be offered—along with all other Virginia Theatre programs—without special public health mitigations, in accordance with the recommendations of the State of Illinois’ Restore Illinois plan for “Phase 5”.
If public health authorities determine this fall that further measures should be taken at indoor venues, the Champaign Park District will follow all such direction at the Virginia and make any necessary changes in practice.
Q. What is the theatre doing to clean and sanitize the space?
A. Additional cleaning measures are being adopted at the Virginia Theatre from here forward to further ensure the space is kept clean and sanitary.
Q. Do I have to have an unoccupied (“gap”) seat in between my party and the next party?
A. Yes, those spaces will be created automatically by the theatre’s ticketing system.
Q. Will the rows immediately in front of and behind a given seat also be used, or will they be blocked off?
A. All of the theatre’s rows will be available for sale during this year’s Ebertfest.
Q. Will individual tickets also be sold as Reserved Seating?
A. Yes, they’ll be sold from the available seating not being occupied by passholders.
Q. Are refunds available?
A. Festival passes for this year’s Ebertfest will be fully-refundable up to 5:30pm on Wednesday, July 28.
Q. I already have a festival pass but am attending with friends who haven’t yet purchased theirs. How can we sit together?
A. The theatre suggests waiting until June 7, when new passes go on sale, and then coordinate converting your pass to a Reserved seat at the same time that your friends go to buy theirs.
