CHAMPAIGN PARK DISTRICT’S VIRGINIA THEATRE TO SUSPEND PUBLIC EVENTS

March 13, 2020

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: FRIDAY, MARCH 13, 2020

CHAMPAIGN PARK DISTRICT’S VIRGINIA THEATRE TO SUSPEND PUBLIC EVENTS

[NOTE: This posting was updated 5/22/20]

Champaign, IL—The Champaign Park District is suspending all public events scheduled at the Virginia Theatre, 203 West Park Avenue, Champaign, Illinois, 61820, beginning Saturday, March 14, 2020, through Sunday, June 14, 2020.

The Champaign Park District has been closely following Center for Disease Control and Champaign-Urbana Public Health District guidelines concerning the Coronavirus (COVID-19) and has implemented district-wide public health measures among its facilities, staff, and volunteers.

To continue in this effort to minimize the risk of community spread of the Coronavirus, the Champaign Park District has taken the further step of working with its community presenting partners to suspend all public events at the Virginia Theatre March 14 through June 14.

From June 15 through September 30, 2020, the Virginia Theatre will be closed for renovation as the Champaign Park District works to install a new concert sound system at the facility.

The public events affected by the spring 2020 suspension are listed below. Many of these events are to be rescheduled, with the new dates indicated.

Patrons who had previously purchased tickets to attend these events should hold onto their tickets pending notification of reschedule, as their original tickets will still be honored at the new date(s). Any patron unable to attend a given event at its rescheduled date may request a full refund once that date has been announced.

Patrons holding tickets to an event that has been cancelled without plans to reschedule will receive a full refund.

For more information, please consult the Virginia Theatre website at www.thevirginia.org or call 217/356-9063.

Please note that the Roger Ebert Film Festival (April 15 through 18, 2020) was previously cancelled by the event organizers on March 12, 2020.
