SOUND SYSTEM UPGRADE
The Virginia Theatre is currently closed* through September 30 while the Champaign Park District completes the installation of a new concert-quality sound system. Funded by a Museum Grant from the State of Illinois, this new sound system will significantly improve patrons’ experience of live performances at the Virginia.
COVID-19 PRECAUTIONS
As the Champaign Park District prepares for the time when it can again host events at the Virginia Theatre, the district has stated its ongoing commitment to public safety. Safety will direct every decision made at the Virginia as this new 2020/2021 season approaches.
Illinois theatres will all be operating under many new safety restrictions during ‘Phase 4’ of the governor’s Restore Illinois plan, and the Virginia will be following these restrictions rigorously as it reopens in the fall of 2020, offering a series of small-scale events and screenings that can safely be made available to the public.
2020/2021 SEASON PROGRAMMING
On Monday, August 17, the Virginia Theatre will be announcing a new season of live events and film screenings coming in the spring of 2021. Tickets for the general public will go on sale Friday, September 18, at 10am.
Since ‘Phase 4’ will most likely continue through all of 2020, the events that were previously rescheduled for this fall at the Virginia—including The Moth, David Sedaris, Renee Elise Goldsberry, and Gordon Lightfoot—are now all working with theatre staff to find new dates on the calendar where they can flourish. As these changes are confirmed, the park district will make the public aware of them.
Please note: Any tickets purchased for a show that is rescheduled will still be good at the new date. Such tickets will automatically be transferred to the new date, or patrons may request a full refund for any reason.
