KANSAS: POINT OF KNOW RETURN TOUR COMING TO HISTORIC VIRGINIA THEATRE

April 15, 2019

Champaign, IL – Legendary rock band KANSAS will perform live in concert as part of their 40th Anniversary Point of Know Return Tour at the Virginia Theatre, 203 West Park Avenue, Champaign, on Friday, October 18, 2019, at 7:30 P.M. Tickets are $45.00 to $125.00 and go on sale to the general public Friday, April 19, 10:00 A.M. (CDT), at the Virginia Theatre Box Office, online at thevirginia.org, or charge by phone at 217-356-9063. VIP Packages also available direct from OneLive Media (details below). Presented by Live Nation, with the Champaign Park District.

America’s preeminent progressive rock band, KANSAS, will be touring select cities in the United States and Canada during the fall and winter of 2019, on the third leg of their popular Point of Know Return Anniversary Tour. Launched as a celebration of the 40th Anniversary of the massive hit album Point of Know Return, the band will be performing the album in its entirety. The tour showcases more than two hours of classic KANSAS music including hit songs, deep cuts, and fan favorites.

‘The sentiments for this anniversary tour for Point of Know Return are kind of similar to the release of the album itself,’ comments KANSAS drummer and original member, Phil Ehart. ‘Just like when we first released the album, as a band, we knew we had to deliver a tour just as good, or better, than what we did for Leftoverture. So, that’s what we’ve tried to do. Fan response has been overwhelmingly positive and we are excited to continue it and take this show to more people.’

KANSAS
With a legendary career spanning more than four decades, KANSAS has firmly established itself as one of America’s iconic classic rock bands. This “garage band” from Topeka released their debut album in 1974 after being discovered by Wally Gold, who worked for Don Kirshner, and have gone on to sell more than 30 million albums worldwide.

Composing a catalogue that includes fifteen studio albums and five live albums, KANSAS has produced eight gold albums, three sextuple-Platinum albums (Leftoverture, Point of Know Return, Best of KANSAS), one platinum live album (Two for the Show), and two one million-selling gold singles, ‘Carry On Wayward Son’ and ‘Dust in the Wind.’

In 1977, KANSAS followed up the success of its 1976 album, Leftoverture, by releasing the album Point of Know Return. Containing the smash hit and million-selling single ‘Dust in the Wind’, along with fan favorites such as ‘Portrait (He Knew)’, ‘Closet Chronicles’, and ‘Paradox’, Point of Know Return became the band’s greatest selling studio album. The album reached sextuple-platinum status with more than six million copies sold, and had three Billboard Hot 100 singles.

Overall, KANSAS appeared on the Billboard charts for over 200 weeks throughout the ‘70’s and ‘80’s and played to sold-out arenas and stadiums throughout North America, Europe and Japan. ‘Carry On Wayward Son’ continues to be one of the top five most played songs on classic rock radio, and ‘Dust In the Wind’ has been played on the radio more than three million times!

2016 marked the release of The Prelude Implicit, KANSAS’s fifteenth studio album. The wide-ranging progressive rock album was released on InsideOut Music, and marked the band’s first studio album release in 16 years. Throughout 2016-2017, the band celebrated both the release of The Prelude Implicit and the anniversary of breakout album Leftoverture with the highly successful KANSAS: Leftoverture 40th Anniversary Tour.

The band, which is currently comprised of keyboardist Tom Brislin, original drummer Phil Ehart, bassist/vocalist Billy Greer, vocalist/keyboardist Ronnie Platt, violinist/guitarist David Ragsdale, guitarist Zak Rizvi, and original guitarist Richard Williams, continues to perform in front of large and enthusiastic audiences around the world.
